The Georgia Natural Gas Market
In 1997, the Georgia Legislature deregulated the natural gas market that was previously controlled by Atlanta Gas Light (AGL). This gave residents in AGL’s service area the ability to choose their natural gas provider (also referred to as marketer). SCANA Energy is one of these gas providers.
SCANA Energy was also selected by the Georgia Public Service Commission to act as the regulated natural gas provider to service low-income and credit-challenged customers.
As a gas provider, SCANA Energy is responsible for selling you gas and making sure you are satisfied with your service. This includes providing accurate bills and assisting you with ongoing service needs.
As part of deregulation, AGL maintained ownership and control of the gas pipeline infrastructure. So no matter which gas provider you choose, AGL is responsible for pipeline maintenance, meter reading services and delivering gas from the source to your home. A charge for their services will show up on your gas bill as “AGL Pass-Through Charges.”
When you sign up with SCANA Energy as your natural gas provider, we work with AGL to turn on the natural gas at your home.
