In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January’s Organization of the Month is The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. The organization was established in 1968 by Coretta Scott King and has since become a global destination, resource center, and community institution for those seeking to follow Dr. King’s teachings.
Colloquially known as “The King Center,” the organization’s mission is to empower people to create a just, humane, equitable, and peaceful world. They have a variety of programs to achieve this goal, including their Nonviolence365 training programs, which offer self-paced training for both individuals and groups/organizations. They also host talks, offer educational resources online and for classrooms, and have an international expo focused on Dr. King’s vision.
You can also visit the center in Atlanta, GA, to discover more about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s history and his impact on our future.
