Organization of the Month: Planned PEThood

Aug 28, 2023, 17:32 by Caralin Stepp

SCANA Energy is committed to supporting the community it serves, so each month $5,000 is donated to a local charity. The organization for August is Planned PEThood, who provides affordable veterinary care for Georgians, and rescues cats and dogs for adoption.

Planned PEThood’s Spay and Neuter Clinic offers spay and neuter surgeries for pets at affordable prices, which not only helps control the stray animal population, but protects pets from developing a variety of illnesses in the future. They also have a Wellness Clinic for routine veterinary care like wellness exams, vaccines, bloodwork, microchipping, and more. These allow everyone to keep their pets healthy, regardless of income.

The organization also has a program called Go Fix Georgia, which helps remote and rural shelters across the state improve their spay and neuter services. Their only rule for this program is that all animals treated will either be adopted or transferred to a rescue group to keep them safe.

In addition to making veterinary care more accessible, Planned PEThood also finds homes for animals. They work with local fosters to care for adoptable dogs and cats, which can be found on their website. Volunteers check applications to make sure the home is suitable for a pet, and then helps connect an animal with their forever home.
