SCANA’s Philanthropic Efforts: Who We Give to and Why

At SCANA Energy, we believe it’s important to support the communities we serve. From unique opportunities for our homework center students to cutting down overgrown bamboo on the Beltline, we love to get out and make a difference where we can. Our biggest contributions to the community are made through our Homework Centers and the Organization of the Month program, where we donate $5,000 to a deserving charity in Georgia each month.

SCANA Energy Homework Centers

We partner with 21st Century Leaders to sponsor after-school programs across metro Atlanta. These programs, the SCANA Energy Homework Centers, help first- through fifth-grade students with schoolwork and skills. The centers are limited to the 30 students most in need to ensure each student gets the attention they deserve. In addition to academic help from teachers, students have visits from our partners where they do fun activities like reading, basketball drills, and more. This past year, they’ve had visits from the Atlanta Hawks, Alliance Theater, GA Tech, and the Atlanta Dream.

Each year, SCANA Energy and Mercedes-Benz Stadium host a Field Day for all of the homework center students. The kids in the program spend a morning at Mercedes-Benz Stadium doing drills and games with Falcons and Atlanta United Legends. The activities are followed by lunch and an awards ceremony (with prizes!) before the kids bus back to their schools for the rest of the day. We’re proud to be part of these kids getting a one-of-a-kind experience.

Organization of the Month Program

In June 2022, we started our Organization of the Month Program, which we highlight on our socials. Each month we post about and donate to a local charitable organization. It’s a great way to not only show our support across the community, but to raise awareness about various organizations that deserve the attention.

We frequently try to align the charities we choose with something going on that month, such as Black History Month, Pride, or Earth Day. We’ve enjoyed learning about the great work that’s happening across the state and getting to know some of the people doing it. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see who we donate to each month and learn more about the organizations.

You can read about past charitable donations on our News page.

And More

We love finding new ways to help out those in our community who need it. One way we do this is through partnering with other companies who support Georgians in need.

Every year, we work with 680 The Fan and the Atlanta Painting Company on the Paint It Forward campaign. People nominate local non-profits who they believe deserve an update to their space. The winner receives a $10,000 paint project and gets announced on 680 The Fan.

We make an annual donation to the Heating Energy Assistance Team (HEAT), who ensures no one in Georgia goes without heat in the cold winter months.

Our partners let us know about opportunities to help charities they already support and come up with creative ways for us to get involved. The most recent example is our work with the Atlanta Dream to support Helping Mamas with a donation and donation drive in May.

We are always looking for ways to support our community. If you know a charity who is in need of a donation or a volunteer opportunity for our employees, please contact us.
