Atlanta, GA –- SCANA Energy will celebrate the end-of-school year at its homework center at Lockheed Elementary School with a special appearance by Open Hand Atlanta Cooking Matters, a non-profit organization that provides evidence-based nutrition education, on Thursday, March 22, from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Lockheed Elementary on 1205 Merritt Road in Marietta.

In recognition of March National Nutrition Month, the homework center visit will feature Open Hand’s Healthy Kids Cooking Workshop. Students will engage in an interactive nutrition lesson and partake in a hands-on healthy snack demonstration to empower them to make different snack choices at home. Students will participate in a food relay game where they will race to identify nutritionally balanced snacks and prepare a yogurt parfait.

The Lockheed Elementary Homework Center operates from 3:35 p.m. – 5:35 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The center serves 30 fourth and fifth grade students. “Lockheed Elementary appreciates the environment that the SCANA Energy Homework Center provides. Because of the Homework Center, our Lockheed Jets can learn, study, and complete lessons after school with the help of their teachers,” says Dr. Darlene Darby, principal of Lockheed.

SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with two certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks, and student incentives. Additional Georgia Homework Centers include elementary schools in College Park, East Point, Lilburn, Lithonia, Norcross, and Stone Mountain.
