Between rate plans, understanding your bill breakdown and unfamiliar terminology, there’s a lot to know (and ask) about natural gas.
While our customer service representatives answer a variety of questions each day, there are five that come up more regularly than others. Read on to find out our customers’ most frequently asked “burning” questions:
1. “What does it take to get new service turned on?”
Are you moving or looking to switch natural gas providers? Finding a natural gas provider (or choosing the right one) near your home has never been easier.
Our service area map can help you see if SCANA Energy provides natural gas near you. If your home is in our service area, you can sign up for service in five easy steps – and choose the service start date that fits your schedule.
2. “What is the difference between a fixed and variable rate?”
There are two types of natural gas rate plans – “fixed” and “variable.”
If you like to rest easy knowing your bill will won’t vary from month to month, our fixed rate plan is for you. This plan locks in the price per therm for the length of your contract.
Prefer more flexibility? Check out our variable rate plan, which allows customers to receive natural gas service without the commitment of a contract. With this type of plan, the price per therm can vary month to month as the natural gas market shifts.
Still not sure which rate plan is right for you? Take our 60-second quiz. Our natural gas bill calculator can also help by predicting your future natural gas bills.
3. “What is a therm?”
Don’t sweat it if the word “therm” isn’t in your everyday vocabulary. Here’s a quick lesson in Natural Gas 101: a therm is a unit of heat energy equal to 100,000 British thermal units (BTU). Therms measure the natural gas usage in your home or business.
4. “What charges will I have on my bill?”
Your natural gas bill is calculated by adding the monthly natural gas consumption charge, customer service charge, Atlanta Gas Light pass-through charge and taxes together.
5. “What makes your company different from others?”
Since 1998, SCANA Energy has been committed to providing five-star service to its customers, and we pride ourselves on being one of the leading natural gas companies in Atlanta. From FlexRate and fixed rates for 6, 12, 18 and 24 months to Budget Billing and discounts for seniors and military service members, we have a variety of rates plans to fit your needs. In addition to offering competitive rates and a friendly, knowledgeable customer service team, we strive to make a difference in the lives of the customers and communities we serve.
As a company and as individuals, we support numerous causes, including education, energy assistance, environment, health, military and the arts. Whether it’s programs like our signature Homework Centers that fund programs for low-income students at Title 1 elementary schools or partnerships with a variety of Georgia non-profit organizations, SCANA Energy is dedicated to being a good neighbor.
