Atlanta, GA (February 18, 2010) –- SCANA Energy will host author and motivational speaker Dr. Beverly Boyd at its homework center at Brookview Elementary School on Thursday, February 25.
Dr. Boyd will visit the homework center at the school on 3250 Hammarskjold Avenue in East Point from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. to read and donate her latest book “I Am A Blessing In Disguise” to the students. With more than 25 years of experience working with children and families, her writings are inspired by helping others see their uniqueness and assisting them in making healthy lifestyle changes.
The Brookview Elementary Homework Center operates from 2:45 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The center serves 35 fourth-grade students. “Our after-school program not only helps our students with improving grades, but it also fosters an environment where positive attitudes can develop,” says Erika Jobbers, homework center manager at Brookview.
SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with two certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks, and student incentives. Additional Georgia Homework Centers include elementary schools in Augusta, College Park, Decatur, Macon, Marietta, Norcross, Rome, and Savannah.
