Atlanta, GA, December 9, 2011 –-SCANA Energy will celebrate its new homework center at Dunleith Elementary School on Thursday, December 15, with a chef-led nutrition and cooking program for its students. The event will be held at the school on 120 Saine Drive in Marietta from 3:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
The program will be presented by Cooking Matters, a non-profit organization that teaches families how to cook healthy and affordable meals. Instructors will teach students practical nutrition information and conduct a hands-on cooking demonstration.
The Dunleith Elementary Homework Center operates from 3:35 p.m. – 5:35 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The center serves 27 fourth grade students. “The Dunleith community is excited about the opportunity to partner with SCANA Energy for the benefit of our students,” says Sarah Towler, principal of Dunleith Elementary. “We are thrilled that our school has been chosen, not only as a venue to assist students with their homework, but also to enrich their lives.”
SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with two certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks, and student incentives. Additional Georgia Homework Centers include elementary schools in East Point, Macon, Norcross, Rome, and Tucker.
