Oct. 17, 2003, Atlanta,GA. - SCANA Energy will celebrate the grand opening of its new homework center at Knollwood Elementary School on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with an Open House from 4 to 5 p.m. at Knollwood, 3039 Santa Monica Drive in Decatur.

The homework center at Knollwood operates from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, under the direction of Bethany Stewart and Miriam Baylor. The center serves 50 third through fifth grade students.

"Our students and their parents are grateful for this unique after-school opportunity. Our teachers appreciate being able to devote extra time to help our pupils grow," says Cecil Clark II, principal of Knollwood.

SCANA Energy currently operates seven homework centers in Georgia. These centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills with certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, snacks and student incentives.

Additional homework center grand openings this Fall include elementary schools in Augusta, East Point, Macon, Rome and Savannah. SCANA Energy has been sponsoring homework centers at select Georgia schools since 1998. The company adopted the award-winning program from its South Carolina-based parent company, SCANA Corporation.
