Atlanta, GA., Oct. 6, 2003 - As colder temperatures approach and Georgians begin to crank up their thermostats, SCANA Energy today announced a new rate plan aimed at protecting customers from potential price spikes during the winter months.

SCANA Energy's new Fixed-for-6 plan allows customers to lock in at a set rate for six months - just long enough to cover the winter heating season and to protect them from any unforeseen price increases. The six-month plan allows customers the peace-of-mind of being shielded from price spikes without having to lock in a fixed rate for an entire year.

"We heard our customers, and we are answering their call," said George Devlin, vice president and general manager of SCANA Energy. "Many customers wanted price protection during the winter heating season, but they didn't want to lock in for a whole year. The Fixed-for-6 plan gives them the best of both worlds, and puts an end to worries about natural gas price spikes."

Natural gas prices tend to rise during the heating season due to increased demand for the clean-burning fuel.

"We are determined to do all we can to give customers the comfort of knowing that their natural gas prices won't go through the roof during the winter," said Devlin. "Fixed-for-6 arms them with another viable option."

Customers can sign up for Fixed-for-6 before Nov. 5 online at www.goscana.com or by calling toll-free (877) GO-SCANA.

SCANA Energy, serving more than 350,000 customers, is the second-largest marketer of natural gas in Georgia. The company also has a regulated unit, SCANA Energy Regulated Division, selected as the state's only regulated natural gas provider.
