Atlanta, Oct. 2, 2003 - SCANA Energy will celebrate the grand opening of its new homework center at Wilkinson Gardens Elementary School on Monday, Oct. 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Wilkinson Gardens, 1918 Tubman Home Road in Augusta.

The homework center at Wilkinson Gardens operates from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with two certified teachers, Johnny Stokes and Denise Reid, and a teacher's assistant, Travis Stewart. The center serves 25 third and fourth grade students.

"Our teachers and students are grateful for this unique opportunity to participate in a rewarding educational experience that will help improve learning skills and enrich lives," says Dr. Gloria Toy, principal of Wilkinson Gardens.

SCANA Energy currently operates seven homework centers in Georgia. These centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills with certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks and student incentives.

Additional homework center grand openings this fall include elementary schools in Atlanta, Macon, Rome and Savannah. SCANA Energy has been sponsoring homework centers at select Georgia schools since 1998. The company adopted the award-winning program from its South Carolina-based parent company, SCANA Corporation.

SCANA Energy, serving more than 350,000 customers, is the second-largest marketer of natural gas in Georgia. The company also has a regulated unit, SCANA Energy Regulated Division, selected as the state's only regulated natural gas provider.
