Atlanta, Aug. 26, 2003 - SCANA Energy will celebrate the grand openings of its seven new homework centers, beginning with Parklane Elementary School on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Parklane, 2809 Blount Street in East Point.

SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with a certified teacher who is responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teacher, an assistant, supplemental snacks and student incentives.

At Parklane Elementary, the homework center operates from 2:50 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., Monday through Friday. The 30 students registered for the program are in third and fourth grades. "Parklane Elementary is fortunate to have been chosen as this year's homework center in Fulton County. Our teachers and students are excited to be able to participate in this unique educational experience that will help improve learning skills and enrich lives," says principal Lee Adams.

Additional homework center grand openings this fall include elementary schools in DeKalb County, Augusta, Macon, Rome and Savannah. SCANA Energy has been sponsoring homework centers at select Georgia schools since 1998. The company adopted the award-winning program from its South Carolina-based parent company, SCANA Corporation.

SCANA Energy, serving more than 350,000 customers in Georgia, is the second-largest marketer of natural gas in Georgia.
