June 19, 2003, Atlanta,GA, - SCANA Energy is contributing approximately $30,000 to purchase boxed floor fans for elderly Georgia residents. The program, which began last summer in Atlanta, has been expanded to include other parts of the state served by SCANA Energy.
The fan giveaway program kicked off June 16 in Savannah when SCANA Energy delivered 500 fans to Senior Citizens Inc. for distribution to eligible seniors. The fan giveaway program targets homebound seniors over age 55 without effective household cooling systems.
SCANA Energy will participate in additional fan giveaway events throughout Georgia during the summer. In July, SCANA Energy will partner again with Atlanta's Fire Department and Mayor's Office. For the first time, SCANA Energy offices in Augusta, Macon, and Rome will team up with various non-profit agencies in their respective regions.
"We're pleased and honored to be able to collaborate with our local and regional community partners in our ongoing efforts to provide effective means of relief to many of our most vulnerable citizens," said George Devlin, SCANA Energy's vice president and general manager.
