April 30, 2003, Atlanta, GA - SCANA Energy's Homework Center at Norton Park Elementary in Smyrna is holding its first Teacher-Student Recognition Day on Thursday, May 8. The event, which will begin at 3:15 p.m., will be held in the homework center at 3041 Gray Road.

Now in its fourth year of operation at Norton Park, the SCANA Energy Homework Center will recognize the accomplishments of its teachers, Joy Malone and Shirley Levine, as well as the academic achievements of its most improved students. "As part of SCANA Energy's ongoing commitment to the communities we serve in Georgia, we are proud to continue our support of the educational efforts in the greater Atlanta area. We are pleased to recognize the teachers and students of Norton Park with this extraordinary day," said Norvell Pettus, Director of SCANA Energy's Homework Centers.

SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Two certified teachers operate the homework center at Norton Park. In addition to the certified teachers, SCANA Energy also provides funds for supplemental snacks and student incentives. The homework center at Norton Park operates from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The center serves 30 second- through fifth-grade students.

SCANA Energy currently sponsors six homework centers in Georgia. The company adopted the award-winning program from its South Carolina-based parent company, SCANA Corporation. In addition to Georgia and South Carolina, SCANA operates homework centers in North Carolina.
