March 13, 2003, Atlanta, GA, - SCANA Energy’s Homework Center at Robert W. Gadsden Elementary in Savannah is holding its first Teacher-Student Recognition Day on Thursday, March 20. The event, which will begin at 4 p.m., will be held in the school’s homework center at 919 May Street.

Now in its fourth year of operation at Gadsden Elementary, the SCANA Energy Homework Center will recognize the accomplishments of its teachers, Maryann Hazzard and Teresa Baker, as well as the academic achievements of its most improved students.

SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Two certified teachers, one serving as program coordinator, operate the homework center at Gadsden Elementary. In addition to the certified teachers, SCANA Energy also provides funds for snacks and student incentives. The homework center at Gadsden Elementary operates from 3:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The center serves 20 third-grade students.

SCANA Energy currently sponsors six homework centers in Georgia. The company adopted the award-winning program from its South Carolina-based parent company, SCANA Corporation. In addition to Georgia and South Carolina, SCANA operates homework centers in North Carolina.
