Atlanta, GA, April 11, 2006 - SCANA Energy will recognize the most improved student at its Brumby Elementary School Homework Center during an end-of-school-year celebration Thursday, April 20.
The event will be held at the school on 1306 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta from 3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Festivities will include Radio Disney partner, who will entertain students and teachers with a Blue Bell ice cream social and provide a family trip to Six Flags for the most improved student.
The Brumby Elementary Homework Center operates from 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The center serves 30 second and third-grade students. "Since we partnered with SCANA Energy for this rewarding after-school program last year, our teachers have seen remarkable progress both scholastically and personally among our students," says Reisha McKinney, principal of Brumby. "We are pleased and proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and honor one who has excelled most this year in terms of performance, attendance and behavior."
SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with two certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks, and student incentives. Additional Georgia Homework Centers include elementary schools in Augusta, Decatur, East Point, Macon, Rome, and Savannah.
